About Us

Tara Yurts is a small family business situated on the Welsh border just outside Hay-On-Wye. We set up in 1998 with the aid of the Prince's Trust as rural craftsmen, providing sustainable woodland practices such as coppice management , hedgelaying , hurdlemaking and willowork . Before setting up on our own we were closely connected with various craftsmen and organisations such as The Greenland Trust in Shropshire. Hal Wyn-Jones the Godfather of the UK yurt scene was our main influence for our yurts.

Woodland Craftwork continues to be a third of our business, however this is slowly being phased out as the yurts become a full-time concern. We cut our own material for our coppice yurts and buy in locally any other wood we need from friends in the trade; all of whom are highly concientious and have the highest principles in relation to the sustainability and regeneration of our local woodland.

We are not particlarly hard nosed about the business. It's more about the creative process and the genuine love of the materials and the finished product. this starts with the sourcing of the raw materials and the care of the woodland it comes from and continues through to enjoying what is a wonderful space to spend time in.
