Coppiced Yurts

Our Coppiced Yurt came about after displaying yurts at various festivals and shows, when although we received a lot of interest in the Kyrgyz Yurts the price was too much for a lot of people As a result we decided to make a yurt that would be simpler and cheaper to produce.

The coppiced yurt is made of coppiced rods of willow and sometimes hazel. By cutting our own material and by not steaming the roof ribs we cut down on cost and time allowing us to sell for less.

The trellis is stripped, steamed, schamferred, oiled and then finished with a basic tennon. The door frame is a more rustic version of the Kyrgyz. The wheel is a simplified version of the mongolian wheel. The willow framed yurt that inspired us down this route was fifteen years old and still going strong. Albion Canvas Co kindly agreed to make a new design of cover to meet our requirements. The roof, walls and door are all build in. The door is an oval opening with zip down cover, which can turn into a little porch and it also includes a seperate cap as standard. This is available for 10' and 12' yurts. On the 10' this is a clear 50% cheaper and on the cover it is 25% cheaper. The only other way you can obtain a yurt of comparable quality for the same price would be to make your own.

These pictures are of a 10' yurt which will happily sleep 4 adults.
