Kyrgyz Yurts
The Kyrgyz Yurt is made up of trellis wall in two or more sections depending on the diameter, a series of roof ribs, a roof wheel and a door frame.
The trellis is sawn ash wood which is steam bent to give it a more rounded profile, it is finished to a high degree and given two protective coats of linseed oil before being tied with rot proof cord.
The roof ribs are of either sawn or coppiced ash and steam bent at one end to raise the roof height. These are finished to the same standard as the trellis and a tennon is worked into the top end, so that it will slot into the mortised roof wheel.
The roof wheel is made of two or more ash or oak blanks steam bent into shape. This is then braced with ash spokes. A series of mortises are made in the wheel which 'lock in' all of the roof ribs.
A simple oak and ash door fram completes the structure. A canvas zip-up door comes as standard. We also offer locking wooded doors as an optional extra
The cover is made of 12oz cotton canvas which is water, rot and fire retardant. It comes in five sections, sturdy groundsheet, wall section,
zip up door, roof cover, and clear vinyl roof wheel cap. White is the standard colour.
Other colours are available however the do tend to fade.
Vinyl windows are an optional extra. Our covers are supplied by the Albion Canvas Co in Devon who supply four of the main yurt makers in the UK. Their work is second to none.
